Icon.EXE has a good collection of icons (it was formally ICON.DLL). When you
get Windows 3.0 you get a collection of icons in the PROGMAN.EXE file.
ICON.EXE is a supplement to those icons. Unfortunately, I didn't get a doc
file when I originally got the program, so I don't know who deserves credit
for this or how the icons were actually created (I suspect with the windows
SDK, and not IconDR.EXE)
HOW TO CHANGE ICONS USING ICON.EXE:
Copy Icon.EXE into your windows subdirectory.
Start Windows and click (once) on a file whose icon you want to change.
Then select 'Properties' from the file menu. Choose 'Change Icon'. The
next dialog box that appears will have PROGMAN.EXE in one of the edit boxes.
Change this to ICON.EXE. Now you can see all of the icons in this collection
by scrolling with the 'View Next' button. When you see the one you want,
the OK or 'Change Icon' button (I'm writing this from memory, so I don't
remember the actual label of the button). That's all there is to it.
Enjoy
